Discover King Edwards Fried Chicken

When locals in St. Charles talk about comfort food done right, many of them mention King Edwards Fried Chicken at 1201 S Duchesne Dr. From the outside, it looks like a casual diner, but step inside and you’re greeted by the aroma of golden fried chicken that has been winning hearts for decades. Regulars often share stories of family dinners here, while newcomers are drawn by online reviews praising the crispy skin and tender meat that feels both nostalgic and freshly made.

What sets this spot apart is the way the menu balances tradition and variety. Of course, the fried chicken takes center stage, but side dishes like mashed potatoes with rich gravy, coleslaw, and cornbread complete the meal in a way that feels like home. Many diners point out that the chicken is fried in small batches, ensuring consistent flavor and crunch, a detail often overlooked in larger fast-food chains. Food critics in Missouri have noted how the recipe reflects a Southern-style influence, yet it retains a Midwestern heartiness that appeals to a wide range of palates.

Beyond the food, the location itself plays a role in its charm. St. Charles is a city with deep history, and this restaurant has become part of the local dining tradition. Families gather here after school games, coworkers drop by for a quick lunch, and travelers often make it a stop because of its reputation. It’s not just about eating; it’s about being part of a community space where memories are built over simple, satisfying meals.

Looking into expert opinions on fried chicken culture in America, publications like Food & Wine and the Southern Foodways Alliance often highlight how regional takes on fried chicken carry both cultural and culinary significance. King Edwards seems to embody that philosophy, serving food that resonates beyond taste—it connects to place, routine, and comfort. And while no single review can capture every experience, consistency over the years has made this location a trusted choice for anyone craving a plate of classic fried chicken in Missouri.

  • I have been going to this place since I was literally at least eight or nine years old always been a great place to go to service is always good. Tonight was the worst. It’s been from the moment I ordered which I know it was probably just busy so I understand You know a little bit of frustration probably but there is a young lady who I don’t really recognize seems newer her emotions just take over in front of the customers like when she was handing my food just seemed like she had an attitude. I don’t know what for never met the lady in my life. Also, when I called and place my order, she was very rude. really surprised how rude she was all I was doing was ordering food way I have for the last 20 years.

  • The chicken wings were a healthy size, and seasoned and fried well. The woman at the counter was super nice and helpful. The food was pricey, compared to other chicken places, but worth it.

  • The fried chicken was incredibly crispy, with a crunchy coating that clings tightly to the meat. Each bite gives you the perfect combo of crispy skin and juicy chicken—absolutely delicious. It’s way better than KFC, hands down. The price is also very affordable, making it a great option to grab and enjoy at home.

  • I placed a to go order at King Edward's Chicken. It was served hot and fresh. My fries were hot also. I can honestly say I'll be back for more when in the area. I like the unique batter the chicken has as well.

  • As a local Realtor around town, I’m always looking for spots with good food and I can get in and out quickly. In the St. Charles area, King Edward’s is that spot. It’s also my husband’s go to after bowling on Tuesdays. The chicken is excellent and good sized pieces not pigeon wings. The service is always nice. It’s small mom and pop shop not really set up for lots of eat in guest so if you’re looking for dine in, this may not be the spot.
